VALIANT YEARS Pt.1

A few months after graduating from the Kubert school in 1991 I started working at VALIANT COMICS. They'd only been around for a year or so, just starting to produce super-hero comics after doing comics featuring Nintendo characters and WWF wrestlers. I started out as a colorist, working with talented people like Jorge Gonzalez, Maria Beccari, Jade Moede, Mark Csaszar and Mike Cavallero. This was before computer coloring, so we did it all by hand (using Doc Martin dyes) and the pages were produced from the original color artwork. It was a lot of work but a lot of fun. The deadlines were insane and we lived at the office, often sleeping there to get the books out on time. We also had a lot of laughs (Anything is funny when it's 4am and you're sleep deprived.) We were all just young kids who loved comics and were excited to be working in the business. We all got along very well and there was a sense of camaraderie that I've never felt anywhere since. Anyway, here's some Valiant covers colored by me. This first batch of Archer & Armstrong covers were illustrated by the great artist (and great guy) Barry Windsor-Smith.

DISNEYLAND!

Growning up, every year around my birthday, my Mom would ask me what I wanted to do. She aready knew the answer. "Disneyland!" I couldn't tell you how many times I've been there. These are photos from a visit in September of 1978. In the first picture, that's me in the middle and in the second I'm with my cousin Monica and my pal, King Louis.
Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

KUBERT DAYS

This is a Mad Magazine-like parody of "Diff'rent Strokes" I did at the Kubert School. I'm guessing 2nd year, mainly because it seems rushed and I rushed a lot of stuff 2nd year. 1st year was surviving my new surroundings and getting through, 2nd year was a shit load of work and off-campus play. 3rd year was trying to actually get a job. Anyway, click for a readable version, it's kinda funny...
ALSO- Did some updates on WWW.GHOSTPIMP.COM Check it out!

Ghost Pimp Pitch Comic COLOR (Pg 1)

This weekend, I thought it would be fun to color my first Ghost Pimp comic that was done in 2001 and put it on the blog. If you've never seen or read it, here's your chance. If you've read it before, read it again! I'm sure it's been years...Click for a larger version.

Back in the Day Pt 3...

The Champions were not the only caracters I made comics of when I was a kid. These are three of my other "creations" I drew way back when that only lasted about an issue apiece.

Ghost Pimp-The Sculpture

A year or two back, my friend and talented paint master, Kat Sapene (www.waktoys.com) started on a cool sculpture for Cootie Brown, the Ghost Pimp! Since then, she hasn't had a chance to work on it because of her busy schedule as the top action figure prototype painter in the business, but I thought it would be neat to give you a look at her work on it so far.
